Whitchurch to Prees Branch

No rain today, as we set off from Whitchurch. This was the first of 6 lift bridges for today.

This was the 2nd which was close by.

And then the 3rd.

Not a real owl, but one carved from wood, on top of the phone pole.

The 4th lift bridge.

Approaching the Prees branch junction.

The 5th lift bridge on the Prees branch.

And the 6th and final lift bridge for today.

Arriving at the end of the Prees branch and Whixhall Marina.

After lunch we went for a walk along the abandoned part of the branch, which is now a nature reserve, and SSSI protected.

This swan was sound asleep on its nest on the strip of land between the old canal and the new marina.

There was lots of different Flora to photograph.

Bridge No.4 is still intact.

Wild honeysuckle starting to emerge.

Where the in-water section ends and the dry bed begins.

Even the depth gauge is still here.

The footpath from here was overgrown through lack of use and we had to take to the road instead.

This was as far as the footpath went, from here it disappeared across a field.

Even some mushrooms!

The swan was still hiding when we returned.
