Jo made a packed lunch this morning and we set off across the field to Beeston Castle. It is well worth a visit. We were extra fortunate that whilst we were there we got some photos of Britannia Class 70000 “Britannia” passing by on the railway line from Crew to Chester. She was due past at 12:47pm so we walked around the castle ground within the outer wall, before returning to the top to have lunch and await the arrival of “Britannia”. Fortunately she was pretty close to the due time. It was a fantastic view of her from upon the castle. We finished our visit to the castle with a stroll around the woodland walk just inside the Victorian wall, culminating at the caves.
We returned to the boat and I checked on line to discover that “Britannia” was due to return pass the castle at 16:26pm, which I found out from the UKsteam Info website. Unfortunately the video I shot with my compact camera was not very good, but Jo got some excellent photos as this great engine thundered by.
We later discovered that one of the paragliders flying over the castle was the brother of one of our facebook friends.
We thought this was an usual place for a mooring ring, in the middle of the castle grounds!
