Battery Cut Off Switch Key Failure

Interesting, had a battery cut-off key fail today, whilst in the switch. It is mounted under the floor of the boatman's cabin so has not been knocked. It has snapped across where the brass key passes through the plastic body as can be seen in the photo.

Before my job went abroad without me I worked in a materials test lab, the failure looks classic torsional fatigue no knocking needed. The pin weakens the body of the key and magnifies the twisting force each time its used so after a while the body fails starting from the pin.

Sorry for being boring.

I don't think it has been moved since the day it was installed.
